Eldon Walls, a self taught artist, has always enjoyed painting horses into the landscape of the Canadian mountains and prairies where he was raised. The cowboy part of Eldon came naturally. As a teenager, the common mode of transportation was on horseback rather than in fancy cars. I've always drawn and painted," Eldon recalls. " I was the least attentive student, daydreaming about horses and drawing them into cartoons on the edges of my textbooks."
Along with illustrating a poetry book and a children's book, Eldon's commissions include several murals, both indoor and outdoor, and a life-size sculpture that was part of the Calgary Stampede Exhibition.
His most recent commission was a T-shirt design for the 2004 July 4th Willie Nelson Picnic in Fort Worth Texas. The group caricature of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Toby Keith commemorates the popular song, "Whiskey for My Men, Beer for My Horses."
Eldon lives in a small laid-back community in Alberta, not too far from the Rocky Mountains that inspire him and keep him connected to the cowboy way of life.
